As a massage therapist I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I've been in the corporate world for 25 years and decided after about 22 years that I needed to look to the future and see what I really want to do when I grow up. I decided to open a bed and breakfast "Enchanted Realm Bed & Breakfast". During that first year my mom had talked about going back to school and become a massage therapist but decided she couldn't manage with her age so it was dropped for a year. I then took up the idea and decided to find a program and go back to school. I took my anatomy physiology at Neosho remote in Ottawa with my daughter. I was accepted into the Johnson County Community College Massage Therapy Program, where I received my Massage Therapist Certification.
My hours are Monday through Thursday evening. Appointments available at 7p and 8:30p.
What is Massage? Why should you have one?
Massage is one of the oldest, simplest forms of therapy and is a system of stroking, pressing and kneading the body's soft tissues - the skin and muscles - with varying degrees of pressure, to relieve pain, relax, stimulate, and tone the body using aroma therapy and reflexology with various massage techniques. Massage does much more than create a pleasant sensation on the skin, it also works on the soft tissues(the muscles, tendons, and ligaments) to improve muscle tone. Although it largely affects those muscles just under the skin, its benefits may also reach the deeper layers of muscle and possibly even the organs themselves. Massage also stimulates blood circulation and assists the lymphatic system (which runs parallel to the circulatory system), improving the elimination of waste throughout the body.

Although a single massage will be enjoyable, the effects of massage are cumulative and a course of massage treatments will bring the most benefits. Regular massage can have the effect of strengthening and toning the entire body mechanism, and so help to prevent unnecessary strains and injuries that might otherwise occur due to excess tension and any resulting structural weaknesses. Massage can stimulate or calm the nervous system-depending upon what is required by the individual-and thus help reduce fatigue, leaving the receiver with a feeling of replenished energy. At its best, massage has the potential to restore the individual physically, mentally and spiritually.Medical Benefits
An increasing number of research studies show massage reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion, and increases endorphins (enhancing medical treatment). Although therapeutic massage does not increase muscle strength, it can stimulate weak, inactive muscles and, thus, partially compensate for the lack of exercise and inactivity resulting from illness or injury. It also can hasten and lead to a more complete recovery from exercise or injury.Research has verified that:
Office workers massaged regularly were more alert, performed better and were less stressed than those who weren't massaged.
Massage therapy decreased the effects of anxiety, tension, depression, pain, and itching in burn patients.
Abdominal surgery patients recovered more quickly after massage.
Premature infants who were massaged gained more weight and fared better than those who weren't.
Autistic children showed less erratic behavior after massage therapy.Positive Strokes Society
Positive Strokes Society is a program that offers a discount to people who consistently seek out the positive, life enhancing benefits of body work. It is designed to encourage a proactive approach to wellness. People who receive bodywork at least once a month are immediately accepted into the Society and receive a five dollar discount, as well as many other benefits, including deep relaxation and enhanced vitality. Regular treatments are a great way to reduce the negative effect stress has on our well being. By actively seeking preventive care, Society members are replacing pain with pleasure. The Society rewards those who consistently follow through on self care.
- First treatment regular price ($60 one hour, $35 half hour)
- A five dollar discount ($55 one hour, $30 half hour) is given to those who receive a treatment at least once in the following month.
- Discount may be used more than once per month. This is one case where more is better! It’s the equivalent of“buy eleven get one free” except you don’t have to wait
to realize the savings; the discount is rewarded for every treatment in consecutive months. This program is designed to reward people who are consistently giving themselves positive strokes.- If client skips a month – sorry, no discount. (Remember, this is about consistency) Discount resumes when monthly participation resumes.
Be good to yourself-you deserve it!
